3 Main Styles of Wrestling: Folkstyle

Folkstyle

There are 3 main styles of wrestling: Folkstyle, Greco Roman, and Freestyle. There are three  2 minute rounds, and during those 3 rounds it is a battle of will, skill, and endurance.

Folkstyle is style thats is  mainly practiced in American high schools, jr. high schools, and colleges the objective  is to pin or get as many points as possible.  Once you pin your opponent, you have won the match; and if you get 15 points ahead, regardless of the round, you receive an automatic victory.

Folkstyle: Points

A pin occurs when your opponent is on their back with both shoulders touching the ground If you can turn your opponent onto their back for 3 seconds, you will gain 2 points; If you can hold him on to his back for 5 second then you'll gain 3 points. you can achieve this by doing tilts and unsuccessful pinning combinations. A reversal will give you 2 points. Penalties typically gives the opponent of the offender 1 or 2 points depending on the penalty. There are many technicalities to folkstyle as well as any other form of wrestling.

CIAA Wrestling

All Sizes-All Shapes

Wrestling is one of the oldest forms of combat. It also is one of, if not, the oldest sport in world history. Its been around sense the beginning of man kind. The fact that CIAA doesn't harbor wrestling programs, confuses me,Winston Salem State University had a successful program. Wrestling is a international sport that is open to people of all genders and all body weights. Wrestling is for everyone...except for the weak.

CIAA Wrestling

People of all sizes, shapes, ethnic groups, genders are open to wrestle; but only the ones with discipline and heart can succeed. considered one of the hardest sports in the world due to its  high intensity. It would be beneficial to have a diverse sport such as wrestling in the CIAA. Wrestlers who go to a HBCU should have the opportunity to continue their wrestling career.
Argyle B. whitfield, Elizabetteville State...CIAA champ & former Dalls Cowboys tight endAt one point in history wrestling played a role in the CIAA  and disbanded it sometime in the 90's.  I've been researching and haven't come with for sure answer why. Im guessing its due to inadequate funding and or Title 9. I'm currently trying to come up with a solution this problem, HBCUs have great talented wrestlers that need to be acknowledged. Wrestlers should not have to give up their sport for a higher education.

Wrestlings Impact On Me

Physical Aspect

Wrestling has played a major role in my life. I learned how to push past my supposed limits. It taught me how to exercise my will and taught me to press through hard situations. Wrestling is a high intensity sport that requires its participants to obtain a elite level of stamina and endurance. There is no "fit" like "wrestling fit". Wrestling is non stop, there is no break in between  rounds, so if you're tired you have to press through. "Survival of the fittest", a phrase that describes life itself, symbolizes the mentality of a wrestler when he steps on the mat.

Character Building

Wrestling has given me a sense of pride and has helped me develop . It at also helped me develop a sense of independence and it also required me to develope a sense of responsibility for my self. When you're on the mat there is no one else but you and your opponent, there is no one else to blame but yourself. Wrestling has not only been character building experience for me, but has giving something to live for; as a depressed adolescent, I would look forward to wrestling season more than anything.

“More enduringly than any other sport, wrestling teaches self-control and pride. Some have wrestled without great skill—none have wrestled without pride.” ~ Dan Gable
